Notebook Hunter

For $499 the 15.6in ASUS A54C-SX137V is a fairly affordable but very entry-level basic notebook. The Intel Pentium processor and 2GB of RAM make it fine for basic computing, but at least for the RRP you’d be better off getting a more powerful alternative with a 2nd Gen Intel Core i3. However, a canny shopper able to snatch up the A54C for a discount would still getting value for money.

Processor
The A54C features an Intel Pentium B950 (2.1GHz) processor, an entry-level processor fast enough for productivity applications and some simpler programs.

Graphics
It comes with integrated or onboard graphics, which are sufficient for simpler productivity applications and very casual gaming.

RAM
2GB of RAM is enough to smoothly run a single program. This isn’t really enough for multi-tasking though.

Storage
A 320GB hard disk drive is on the small side. It’ll still be enough to hold some media content along with important documents though.

Screen
The A54C sports a 15.6in 1,366 x 768 resolution) gloss screen. The gloss screen should have better colour richness when compared to a matte screen, but the reflectiveness will make it a bit difficult to use in direct sunlight.

Portability
The A54C has average portability, because it weighs 2.6kg and is 37.2mm thick. It'll be straightforward to carry around.
