About the Compaq Presario CQ43-102AU - (Price $398.00)
Ultraportables have made good use of the AMD Fusion E-350 processor, but those ones are vastly more portable than this particular notebook.
Even for just $398 we can’t really recommend the Compaq Presario CQ43-102AU ultraportable. Although cheaper than similarly portable alternatives, the gulf in computing power is so dramatic that it’s a better idea to save up for a bit and get a vastly lighter notebook with the same AMD Fusion processor.
The AMD Fusion E-350 (1.6GHz) processor is low-end, but it’ll still be fine for productivity applications. It has integrated AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics that allow it to do tasks like smoothly stream a Full HD movie to a larger Full HD screen. That being said, with only 2GB of RAM this notebook can only really do one task at a time.
A 14in (1,366x768 resolution) screen is certainly decent, and it allows the CQ43 to weigh only 2.15kg, so if nothing else it is fairly portable. Storage is a reasonable 320GB, but some discipline will be needed to avoid quickly filling the available hard disk drive space. Despite being light, the 35.5mm thickness is typical even for an allrounder.
This is an average, notebook, with not a great deal to recommend it but on show-stopper downsides either.
