The deal: Acer AOD257 - mighty and cheap Intel Atom N570 netbook - $249.00
For just $249 at Retravision the Acer AOD257-N57DQ is a terrific bargain due to its inclusion of an Intel Atom N570. It’s one of the best processors currently available for netbooks, and the price is vastly lower than netbooks with directly inferior specs.
The Intel Atom N570 (1.66GHz) processor can ably run productivity applications. Although the 1GB of RAM does limit multi-tasking, overall Windows 7 Starter is going to function respectably well. Only the most basic casual gaming is possible though, but for a netbook that’s par for the course.
A 250GB hard disk drive is fairly generous by netbook standards, but decently sized video and music collections will fill it fairly quickly. A 10.1in (1,024x600 resolution) screen is on the small side, but for single productivity applications there’s still enough viewing space. Of course this small screen results in the AOD257 weighing a mere 1.3kg and measuring 24mm thick, so taking it around with you won’t be even a slight hassle.
