The Acer AS4741G-434G50MN for $897, or $798 if you persevere with a cashback, is a very good deal. Most importantly at this price is the Intel Core i5-430M; normally the best you get in this price bracket are the Intel Core i3 processors. It’s one of the faster processors you’ll find in notebooks right now. The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 isn’t the top ATI offering, but it’s still powerful enough to run games like Modern Warfare 2 on low settings. Chuck in 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive, and you’ve got the functionality to watch HD movies, manage large photo archives, and run several programs at once without slowing any of them down.
The 14in (1366x768 resolution) screen is a little smaller than the 15.6in screens normally seen at this price bracket, but not so much that functionality suffers. It’s surprisingly light for it’s kind, weighing only 2.2kg. It’s physically very small; it’s just 25.4mm thick, 342mm wide, and 245mm deep. This is a truly great bargain by any measure.
