The deal: Acer AS5750 - affordable and versatile Sandy Bridge notebook - $688.00
For $688 at the Good Guys the Acer Aspire AS5750-2314G50Mnkk is an affordable and functional notebook that has real allrounder credibility despite not having a dedicated graphics card. The Sandy Bridge Intel Core i3 has onboard graphics that are good enough for modern games at low settings and other similarly intensive graphics rendering tasks. For the price this is a really versatile notebook that’s well worth the attached price tag.
Powering the AS5750 is a Sandy Bridge Intel Core i3-2310M (2.1GHz) processor that won’t struggle with any productivity applications and even a few intensive programs. The 4GB of RAM ensures that several programs can be run at once without much fuss, and gaming performance is respectable. This is because of the onboard Intel Graphics HD 3000 graphics; games like StarCraft 2 will run cheerfully at low settings, which for the price is very reasonable.
There’s a 500GB hard disk drive for storage, which translates to quite a lot of video before space runs out. The 15.6in (1,366x768 resolution) screen is to be expected; very few notebooks with this screen size have a higher resolution, and they tend to also be far more expensive as well. Portability is about average; the AS5750 weighs 2.6kg and measures 33mm thick, 251.4mm deep and 381mm wide.
