With a price tag of $2,799, the Acer AS8943G-7748G1.5TWNSS entertainment notebook is as expensive as it is physically massive, but it's definitely worth every dollar. It has the holy grail for its class; an 18.4in HD screen. Add to the mix the fact that it has a processor and graphics card more comfortable in a gaming notebook and suddenly the asking price becomes really reasonable.

A Blu-ray burner is always welcome, as in addition to playing Blu-ray movies it can burn tremendous amounts of data. Those movies will look spectacular on the 18.4in HD (1,920x1,080 resolution) screen, as they’ll be playing at their highest possible quality. A TV tuner lets the nearly TV-sized AS8943G function as a, well, TV and also record stuff as well. Rest assured that the enormous 1,500GB hard drive is going to keep you well stocked for storage space even if you aggressively try to fill it with videos and movies.

The processor that holds the show together is an Intel Core i7-740QM (1.73GHz) that will simultaneously handle tasks like burning a Blu-ray movie, recording TV with the TV tuner and running an intensive productivity application. The 8GB of RAM in particular makes multi-tasking a breeze, but it also works well with the strong ATI Mobility Radeon 5850 graphics card. This gaming notebook grade feature can play new games like Call of Duty: Black Ops on ultra high settings. Portability isn’t high, but it’s not meant to be; the AS8943G weighs 4.6kg, and measures 43.8mm thick, 295mm deep and 440mm wide.
