The deal: Acer Aspire 4752 - large ultraportable specced like a good basic notebook - $517.00

Added 17 May 2012

The 14in Acer Aspire AS4752-32352G50MNbb is well-priced for $517, because it offers good basic notebook specs in a body weighing 2.25kg. It’s got one of the newer 2nd Gen Intel Core i3s and a 500GB hard disk drive, so while there’s only 2GB of RAM there’s more storage than average to compensate. It has a DVD burner as well as a HDMI port and a trio of USB 2.0 ports. There’s also an SD card reader

See the product page online here.

See a summary of the specs below.

Processor
The AS4752features a 2nd Gen Intel Core i3-2350M (2.2GHz), a fast entry-level processor which can smoothly run productivity applications and some intensive software.

Graphics
It comes with an integrated graphics solution called Intel HD Graphics 3000. It’s on par with a low-end dedicated graphics card, and is sufficient for modern games at the lowest settings.

RAM
2GB of RAM is enough to smoothly run a single program. This isn’t really enough for multi-tasking though.

Storage
A 500GB hard disk drive is about average in size. It’s big enough for plenty of documents, but movies and the like will fill it sooner rather than later.

Screen
The AS4752 sports a 14in (1,366 x 768 resolution) gloss screen. The resolution is average for the screen size.

Portability
The AS4752 is more portable than average, because it weighs 2.25kg and is 34.2mm thick. Carrying it around won’t pose any difficulties.
