The deal: Acer Iconia TAB A500 - very affordable Honeycomb tablet with great speakers - $386.00
For a mere $386 at Harvey Norman (until Sunday) the 10.1in Acer Iconia TAB A500 (16GB) is great value for money. This is one of the highly regarded Android tablets - with good specs, big number of ports and excellent speakers. It's a great lower-priced alternative to the Apple iPad if you want to stick with Android.
An NVIDIA Tegra 2 T250 (1GHz) processor and 1GB of RAM give the A500 good performance, ensuring Android Honeycomb 3.2 runs fluidly on the capacitive 10.1in (1,280x800 resolution) screen. Where most tablets are lucky to get a single Micro USB 2.0 port, the A500 also has a Micro HDMI port, a Micro SD card reader and a full-sized USB 2.0 port. It means you have more options for connecting the Iconia to external storage, TVs and computers than most other tablets. The Micro SD card reader is of particular use, because while the 16GB SSD on the A500 is fair enough given the price it’s likely to run out fast if you start storing lots of apps and media on the tablet.
The A500 weighs 700 grams, and while that’s heavier than the Apple iPad 2's 601grams, it’s still light compared to say a netbook. Wireless connectivity is about standard for tablets, including 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1.
