Apple MacBook Air 11in - tiny ultraportable with backlit keyboard for 10% off

The deal: Apple MacBook Air 11in - tiny ultraportable with backlit keyboard for 10% off - $1,211.40

Added 11 May 2012

Another good deal from JB Hi-Fi’s current 10% off Apple sale is the Apple MacBook Air 11in (128GB) for $1,211.40. It weighs a mere 1.08kg thanks to the 11.6in (1,366 x 768 pixels) screen allowing it to be really small. The specs on offer are also enough for proper work: it has a low-voltage 2nd Gen Intel Core i5, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive. It’s pretty spectacularly built as well, making it functional as well as beautiful. Two last points worth noting is that it has a backlit keyboard and a high-speed Thunderbolt port. The former is self-explanatory, while the latter is a new standard that allows for much higher data transfer rates than the already fast USB 3.0.

See a summary of the specs below.

Processor
The MacBook Air features a 2nd Gen Intel Core i5-2467M (1.6GHz), a mid-range low-voltage processor that can run productivity applications and some intensive software. It can burst up to 2.3GHz using Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology if a particularly demanding program is running.

Graphics
It comes with an integrated graphics solution called Intel HD Graphics 3000. It’s on par with a low-end dedicated graphics card, and is sufficient for modern games at the lowest settings.

RAM
4GB of RAM is enough to run several programs at once smoothly. It’s more than enough to ensure fluid overall system performance with Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Storage
A 128GB solid state drive is small compared to a hard disk drive, but by SSD standards it’s about middle of the road. It does have very rapid response for both reading and writing data.

Screen
It sports an 11.6in (1,366 x 768 resolution) gloss screen. This pixel resolution is high for the screen size.

Portability
The MacBook Air has exceptional portability, because it weighs 1.08kg and is 17mm thick.  It’s more than light enough to be taken anywhere without any problems whatsoever.

Other Features
One unique feature is that the MacBook Air has a Thunderbolt port, a new standard developed by Intel that allows for exceptionally high data transfer speeds.
