JB Hi-Fi’s selling all Apple notebooks for 10% less than their already slightly lower than RRP sales prices, and for $1,299.60 the Apple MacBook Air 13in (128GB) is one of the best resulting bargains. This exquisitely sleek ultraportable weighs only 1.35kg and is 17mm at the thickest point, making it really easy to carry around. The aluminium exterior hides a swift low-voltage 2nd Gen Intel Core i5-2557M, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive. That’s easily enough to run productivity programs, ensuring the MacBook Air isn’t just a pretty face.

There are some other features worth noting. Firstly is that the 13.3in screen has an above-average 1,440 x 900 pixels, meaning everything on the screen will appear sharper. There’s also a backlit keyboard, an essential feature if you’ll be using the MacBook Air in poor lighting. Finally there’s a Thunderbolt port, a new port standard that has faster data transfer speeds than the already fast USB 3.0. All in all it’s a feature-laden, capable ultraportable for a reasonable price.

Processor
The Air features a 2nd Gen Intel Core i5-2557M (1.7GHz), which is one of the better mid-range low-voltage processors that can run productivity applications and some intensive software. It can burst up to 2.7GHz using Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology if a particularly demanding program is running.

Graphics
It comes with an integrated graphics solution called Intel HD Graphics 3000. It’s on par with a low-end dedicated graphics card, and is sufficient for modern games at the lowest settings.

RAM
4GB of RAM is enough to run several programs at once smoothly. It’s more than enough to ensure fluid overall system performance with Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Storage
A 128GB solid state drive is about mid-range by SSD standards, but it does have very rapid response for both reading and writing data.
