For $1,304.10 the Apple MacBook Air 13in (128GB) is a well-priced and surprisingly powerful ultraportable. The low-voltage 2nd Gen Intel Core i5 and 4GB of RAM enable the Air to get some real work done, and with a weight of just 1.35kg it’s as light as vastly less powerful netbooks.
The specific processor in the Air is the low-voltage 2nd Gen Intel Core i5-2557M (1.7GHz), which, together with the reasonably powerful integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000, can run productivity applications and demanding programs with ease.
Although the storage volume is small, the snappy performance of the 128GB SSD is a worthy trade-off. The 13.3in screen is also unusually good, with a resolution of 1,440 x 900 and good colour depth. Two neat features of the Air (that came with the latest update to the range) are a backlit keyboard and a Thunderbolt port (which allows for even faster data transfer rates than USB 3.0 ports featured in other notebooks).
