The deal: ASUS 1015PEM - outrageously cheap netbook - $248.00
It looks like netbook prices are collapsing again, because for $248 the ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM-BLK048S available at Joyce Mayne is outrageously cheap for what it offers. Around this price normally netbooks only have Intel Atom N450/N455 processors, but this one has an Intel Atom N550 that generally turns up in netbooks around $350. The EOFYS period has seen unheard of discounts, and this is one of the best we’ve seen so far.
The Intel Atom N550 mentioned earlier is capable of running productivity applications without any difficulty, and while the 1GB of RAM ensures good single program performance there isn’t much scope for multi-tasking.
A 250GB hard disk drive is small only by the standards of larger notebooks, and it should be sufficient for the productivity applications the 1015PEM thrives on. The 10.1in (1,024x600 resolution) screen is another component that’s small only by larger notebook standards, and considering the 1015PEM weighs just 1.27kg the gain in portability is well worth it.
