For $1,999 the 17.3in ASUS G74SX-FHD-TZ130V is a powerful, well-rounded gaming notebook that will easily power through modern games. It also has a whopping 1,500GB of hard disk drive storage, along with a Blu-ray burner. While its forte is gaming the G74SX has definitely taken some notes from dedicated entertainment notebooks.
An NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M dedicated graphics card is a powerful card that can handle modern PC games at the highest settings. There’s also a 2nd Gen Intel Core i7-2630QM (2GHz), processor, one of Intel’s high-end CPUs that nicely complements the GTX 560M. Completing the package is a huge 8GB of RAM, which also firmly cements the G74SX’s gaming notebook credentials.
The Blu-ray burner mentioned earlier is a good fit with the full HD 17.3in screen, enabling you to watch Blu-ray movies at their native resolution. It’s awfully heavy at 4.28kg, but this is to be expected of a notebook with such a powerful dedicated graphics card.
You want to play games seriously on a notebook? This is the kind of hardware you need. If $1,999 still seems pricey, that's because you're comparing the ASUS to standard notebooks which have some gaming capability, but are not out-and-out gaming machines. Compare it to similarly specced gaming notebooks and it's a bargain.
