For $348 the 10.1in ASUS R051PX is an affordable netbook for those who want decent storage as well as adequate computing power. The Intel Atom N570 processor and 1GB of RAM are certainly enough for web browsing and running productivity applications, but there's also a 320GB hard disk drive, a big improvement on the tiny drives common in netbooks. Don’t expect to cram a massive media library into it, but compared to the once standard 250GB it’s a major step forward for netbooks.
While the R051PX is no Ultrabook when it comes to performance, it shows that laptop makers are gradually improving the netbook spec. However, the major attraction remains the extreme portability, with the R051PX weighing in at a measly 1.25kg.
This special covers the black, red and white versions.
Processor
The R051PX features an Intel Atom N570 (1.66GHz) processor, one of the better low-end netbook processors. It will handle simpler productivity applications smoothly, enough to get the job done when you're on the road.
Graphics
It comes with integrated or onboard graphics, which are sufficient for simpler productivity applications and very casual gaming.
RAM
1GB of RAM is enough to run a single simpler program smoothly, but multi-tasking won’t go very well.
Storage
A 320GB hard disk drive is on the small side, but it’ll still be enough to hold some media content along with important documents though.
Screen
The R051PX sports a 10.1in (1,024 x 600 resolution) screen. This resolution is about standard for a netbook, and while it's a bit low the small screen size still ensures acceptable pixel density.
Portability
The R051PX has exceptional portability, because it weighs 1.25kg and is 36.4mm thick. It’s more than light enough to be taken anywhere without any problems whatsoever.
