The deal: ASUS Transformer - uniquely capable and affordable tablet - $696.00
The 10.1in ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101 answered one of the main complaints against tablets by coming with a very functional keyboard dock. For $696 it’s a really well priced package as well, because you’re getting a very nicely built tablet and a keyboard dock that is not only really nice to use but also capable of significantly improving the Transformer’s already good battery life.
It has a very nice 10.1in (1,280x800 resolution) capacitive screen with rich colours and a good viewing angle, and Android Honeycomb runs very smoothly thanks to the NVIDIA Tegra 2 T250 (1GHz) processor and 1GB of RAM. The 32GB of SSD storage is fair by tablet standards, but there’s a Micro SD slot on the tablet and an SD reader in the keyboard dock that together mean the Transformer’s storage can be majorly improved.
A lot of ports are on the keyboard dock, notably a pair of USB 2.0 ports, but a Mini HDMI port is on the tablet itself. The speaker quality is good enough to enjoy music and movies, and while the cameras on the front and rear aren’t spectacular this is true of all tablets. Overall the Transformer is a high quality tablet that stands out from the crowd.
