For $719 the 13.3in screen ASUS U31F-11YR-RX132V is a very affordable ultraportable that has computing power comparable to equally priced basic notebooks. It contains a fast first generation Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and a generous 500GB hard drive; the only thing light weight about the U31F is the notebook itself at 1.88kg. Those looking for an even blend of high power and high portability would do well to consider this bargain. It ends on Sunday though, so decide quickly before the special ends.

Under the hood there’s a first generation Intel Core i5-480M (2.66GHz) processor that will power through most intensive programs without any dramas, and it’s more than capable of running any imaginable productivity application. Multi-tasking capacity is very reasonable due to the 4GB of RAM, so while there isn’t a dedicated graphics card it’s clear that the U31F is still a very strong performer.

A 13.3in (1,366x768 resolution) screen is more than sufficient for watching videos or running programs, and it’s necessary to keep the weight at a low 1.88kg. The U31F is as slender as it is light, measuring 28.5mm thick, 232mm deep and 328mm wide. The last spec worth noting is the storage, which is a generous 500GB; most ultraportables go with a 320GB, so it’s good to see that compromise hasn’t been made here.
