Until Sunday at JB Hi-Fi the 13.3in ASUS UX31E-RY009V is a significant bargain, because you’re getting one of the best built and just-announced Ultrabooks for a price significantly less than its RRP. The all-aluminium exterior and unibody construction gives the UX31E the kind of quality you expect to find in certain very slim Apple product called the MacBook Air, and the specs give this svelte little stunner the performce of a full-sized basic notebook. Not bad given that it weighs just 1.3kg and is 17mm at the thickest point!

The specific processor in the UX31E is a low-voltage 2nd Gen Intel Core i5-2557M (1.7GHz), a fast processor that’s about on par with a full-voltage 2nd Gen Intel Core i3. There’s also 4GB of RAM, ensuring that the UX31E won’t be struggling to run programs and productivity applications.

One massive tick in this Ultrabook’s favour is the 13.3in (1,600x900 resolution) screen. It crams more pixels into the small display than most 15.6in full-size notebooks, which have a more pedestrian resolution of 1,366x768. Storage is taken care of by a 128GB SSD, and while that’s by no means massive it’s enough for vital files and, even more important, guarantees fantastic performance when paired with the Core i5.
