The 14in ASUS X44LY-VX016V is well priced at $538.20 at JB Hi-Fi. While it's not an ultraportable, it's on the lighter end of the scale of standard notebooks, and also features a low-end dedicated graphics card, which gives it a bit more graphics grunt than a basic notebook without one. So if you want a really cheap but highly portable allround notebook, this is a good one.
Powering the X44LY is a 2nd Gen Intel Core i3-2310M (2.1GHz) processor, which is able to handle productivity applications along with some more demanding programs. Serious gaming isn’t really possible with the AMD Radeon HD 6470M dedicated graphics card, but it’s an improvement on just integrated graphics.
The X44LY also has 4GB of RAM, allowing it to multi-task with several programs at once. Last but not least there’s a 500GB hard disk drive which is fairly generous considering how affordable the X44LY is.
