The tiny 11.6in ASUS Zenbook UX21E-KX008V is a powerful little Ultrabook and while its $1,434.60 special price at JB Hi-Fi still seems a bit steep, it's actually less than some mid-range Ultrabooks with lesser processors. The UX21E packs in a low-voltage 2nd Gen Intel Core i7 processor together with 4GB of RAM, giving it a serious amount of computing power and a formidable power-to-weight ratio. It’s beautifully built as well, and the sleek aluminium exterior is the nicest finish we’ve seen on any notebook, period. Despite the all-metal exterior it only weighs 1.1kg, so this tiny powerhouse will be easy to carry around.
In short, the UX21E is ideal for anyone who needs something incredibly portable, but with the power of a full-sized notebook. If you bought a netbook because you loved the size and portability, and were disappointed by the anaemic performance, this is the machine that will renew your faith in tiny computers
ProcessorThe UX21E has a 2nd Gen Intel Core i7-2677M (1.8GHz), a high-end low-voltage processor that can run intensive software without any real difficulties. It can burst up to 2.9GHz using Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology if a particularly demanding program is running.
GraphicsIt has an integrated graphics solution called Intel HD Graphics 3000. It’s on par with a low-end dedicated graphics card, and is sufficient for modern games at the lowest settings.
RAM4GB of RAM is enough to run several programs at once smoothly.
StorageThe 128GB solid state drive is very small, but it does have very rapid response though for both reading and writing data.
ScreenIt uses an 11.6in (1,366x768 resolution) gloss screen. The gloss screen does make outdoor usage a bit of a struggle, but the colour will be richer than most matte screens.
PortabilityThe UX21E has exceptional portability, because it weighs 1.1kg and is 17mm thick. It’s more than light enough to be taken anywhere without any problems whatsoever.
