The deal: Compaq CQ62-213AX - below $700 gaming capable notebook - $691.00
The Compaq Presario CQ62-213AX is a very decent notebook for $691. While the AMD Athlon II Sempron V120 is far slower than the Intel Pentium processors, it’s still much faster than the Intel Atom processors you find in similarly priced netbooks. This is a definite sacrifice though, as Intel Core i3 processors have appeared before at this price bracket. It’s ultimately a trade off of processor speed for some gaming performance. That being said, the ATI Radeon HD 5430 graphics processor should be enough to run games like Modern Warfare 2 on low settings. Watching HD movies also shouldn’t strain the hardware.
Everything else here is good for the price, including 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, and a 15.6in (1366x768 resolution) screen. As might be expected, it’s nothing special physically. With a weight of 2.5kg, width of 374mm, depth of 246mm, and thickness of 36.8mm this notebook is typical. However, if you need a gaming capable notebook for a low price then this should be in your sights.
