For the price of $799 online from Dell, the 15.6in performance notebook 15R (DV510611AU) is an absolute gem. We were a little surprised to find that the base model of 15R has already been upgraded since 2 weeks ago. This new model aims to attract people wanting a good performance notebook for the cost of a mid ranged all-rounder. What makes the base model of this laptop stand out is quite simply its price-for-performance value: for $799 (online price) you get a laptop with a 3rd generation Intel Core i7 and an AMD Radeon HD 7670M dedicated graphics card (a card able to play modern games on low or medium settings) and 4GB memory. They are core system specs for which you would normally pay around $150 or $200 dollars more, and there's also an impressively large 1TB hard disk drive to provide plenty of storage for a large collection of files. It’s a solid performance laptop that can play some games and be moved around the house and satisfy almost everyone’s computing needs at an affordable price.
See a summary of the specs below:
PROCESSOR - The laptop's engine
The Inspiron 15R features a 3nd Gen Intel Core i7-3612QM (2.10GHz), a powerful processor for a performance laptop.
GRAPHICS - Control what you see displayed on the screen
It comes with a dedicated graphics card called the AMD Radeon HD 7670 with 1GB memory. It's a reasonably powerful mid-range component and will be able to handle most modern games at low to medium settings.
RAM - The memory used for computation
4GB of RAM is enough for reasonable system performance with Windows 7 Premium and for running several programs at once smoothly.
STORAGE - The long term store for data and programs.
A 1TB hard disk drive is exceptionally large and will hold an extensive amount of media content along with documents.
The Inspiron 15R sports a 15.6in (1,366 x 768 resolution) screen. The resolution is average for the screen size.
The Inspiron 15R is a full-sized laptop. Weighing 2.74kg, it is less portable than average, but it's to be expected for an allrounder that doesn't make claims (and attract a price premium) for above average portability. Although it can be moved around, a decent notebook backpack should be considered. This laptop can easily replace your desktop PC.
