The deal: Dell XPS 17 - desktop replacement all-rounder with mighty specs - $1,399.00
The 17.3in Dell XPS 17 (U510306AU) is a high-end desktop replacement with a stylish partly metal exterior, and for $1,399 it’s competitively priced. It combines a 2nd Gen Intel Core i7 with a powerful NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M dedicated graphics card, making it possible to run everything from demanding programs to modern games.
There’s also a huge 1,500GB of hard disk drive storage, and as a nice entertainment feature there’s a Blu-ray player. To watch them in their native full HD you’ll need to use an external full HD (1080p) screen or TV, but the HDMI port makes that easy. However, for an extra $56.21 you can upgrade the XPS 17’s screen to a 1080p one, a very reasonable price. Another potentially worthy upgrade for Blu-ray aficionados is a Blu-ray burner for $42.35, because (with the right software) you can burn your Blu-ray movies to disc.

See a summary of the specs below.
Processor
The XPS 17 features a 2nd Gen Intel Core i7-2670QM (2.2GHz), a high-end processor that can run intensive software and productivity applications without any difficulty. It can burst up to 3.1GHz using Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology if a particularly demanding program is running.
Graphics
It comes with a dedicated graphics card called the NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M. This is one of the fastest mid-range cards available and most modern games will happily run at high settings.
RAM
8GB of RAM is enough to either run many programs at once fluidly or run very intensive image and video editing software.
Storage
1,500GB of hard disk drive storage is enormous, and can store heaps of media content along with mountains of files.
Screen
The XPS 17 sports a 17.3in (1,600 x 900 resolution) gloss screen. This resolution is average for the screen size.
Portability
The XPS 17 isn’t really very portable, because it weighs 3.53kg and is 38.5mm thick. This will likely live on a desk and only move around if absolutely necessary.
Other Features
The XPS 17 has a Blu-ray player, which allows it to play Blu-ray movies.
