DXtreme D703 - very affordable and very portable Android Gingerbread tablet

The deal: DXtreme D703 - very affordable and very portable Android Gingerbread tablet - $199.00

Added 05 October 2011

The 7in DXtreme D703 is a very affordable way to get a good low-end tablet. At only $199 it’s certainly budget priced, but the capacitive screen, solid plastic construction and decent specs all ensure that you’re still getting good value for money.

While Android Gingerbread 2.3 isn’t as slick as Android Honeycomb 3.x, it’s still a very useable operating system that runs well thanks to the ARM Cortex A8 (1GHz) processor and 0.512GB of RAM. Although the 4GB SSD is really small, as part of this deal Harris Technology throws in a 4GB Micro SD card. This helps a lot, and down the line you can expand the storage further by using a larger Micro SD card.

The D703’s small screen means it weighs a very low 200 grams, which is vastly lighter than its full-sized and more expensive brethren. It also has a decent array of ports, including Mini USB 2.0, Mini HDMI and a headphone jack. Although there’s no Bluetooth support, you do get 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi.
