eMachines EM355-N571G25ikk- high-end netbook for a very low price

The deal: eMachines EM355-N571G25ikk- high-end netbook for a very low price - $267.00

Added 21 November 2011

For $267 the 10.1in eMachines EM355-N571G25IKK is a really good buy for those needing a highly portable way to run simpler programs. Although it has a bit less storage than some newly released alternatives, at nearly half their price it still has a sharp competitive edge.

The main feature here is the Intel Atom N570 (1.66GHz) processor, which by netbook standards is high-end. Together with 1GB of RAM it can run basic productivity applications and let you do your web surfing and email on the 10.1in (1,024x600 resolution) screen.

For storage the 1.25kg EM355 has a 250GB hard disk drive, which is large enough for essential files even if media content like movies will fill it up very quickly.

  • John in Brisbane (User): That's an awesome price but I'd urge caution on two fronts: Battery life and RAM.

    1. RAM - For anything more than simple surfing for kids or grandparents, 1gig is not enough for Win7, even the starter edition. Stop off at the local cheap shop on the way home and grab a 2gig stick (assuming there is only 1 slot). It will be $20 something tops.

    2. Battery life - 3 cell batteries, even in these more efficient 2nd gen atoms are pretty poor. It will last longer than a cheap 15" machine but netbooks are meant to run all day and to be carried around the house and in your bag where ever you go. Google a better battery quick smart - even a cheap copy.

Given that, the Samsungs featured a few months ago seem better value - they come with a 6 cell battery and my brother has just come back from 3 months in Europe raving about his. He paid about $320 in Brisbane.
