The deal: HP 1016TU - inexpensive Sandy Bridge Core i5 allrounder - $699.00
For $699 at WOW Sight and Sound the HP Pavilion G6-1016TU is an excellently priced allrounder notebook that has a surprisingly good amount of versatility. It has a respectable 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive along with a Sandy Bridge Intel Core i5 that has onboard graphics that are on par with a low-end graphics card. The price tag here is in the same ballpark as a basic notebook, so the value for money is very good.
The Sandy Bridge Intel Core i5-2410M (2.3GHz) processor can handle intensive programs like image editors, and it won’t break a sweat running productivity applications. It also has onboard Intel Graphics HD 3000 graphics that are able to run new games like StarCraft 2 at low settings; that performance is on par with a low-end graphics card. Rounding out the performance specs there’s 4GB of RAM that will be helpful for multi-tasking along with general system performance.
Storage is ably taken care of by a 500GB hard drive, and the 15.6in (1,366x768 resolution) screen will work well with videos, games and whatever else. Portability is unusually good for the screen size. At 2.3kg it’s nearly 200 grams than most alternatives, but the dimensions of 374mm for width, 245mm for depth and 36.3mm for thickness are all very normal.
