HP 3029TX - thin and light that's good for gaming

The deal: HP 3029TX - thin and light that's good for gaming - $762.45

Added 30 July 2011

The 14in HP Pavilion dv4-3029tx is an unusually powerful ultraportable that’s unusually cheap for $762.45. Even newer games like Call of Duty: Black Ops will run smoothly at high to ultra high settings thanks to the AMD Radeon HD 6750M dedicated graphics card. Weighing 2.22kg it’s not the lightest ultraportable available, but it’s definitely one of the most powerful.

The Intel Core i5-2410M (2.3GHz) that accompanies the graphics card is a good mid-range processor that makes use of Turbo Boost 2.0 technology to boost its speed to a zippy 2.9GHz. To round out the performance specs there’s 4GB of RAM, so overall the specs are good even by the standards of a full-sized allrounder.

There’s a spacious 640GB hard disk drive that the 3029tx has crammed in despite being only 28.1mm thick. The 14in (1,366x768 resolution) screen is fine for gaming, but there’s a HDMI port if you want to play games on a larger and higher resolution external screen.
