For $798 the HP Pavilion dv6-3138tx is exactly what you’d hope for in a low-end allrounder notebook. The processor is still good even by current standards, the graphics card still packs a punch, and the overall specs don’t have any gaps. It’s definitely a good bargain, that’s for sure.
The Intel Core i3-370M (2.4GHz) is one of the faster Intel Core i3s available for notebooks, and it will handle all but the most intensive productivity applications. Gaming is catered to by the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 graphics card, having the power needed to smoothly play new games like Call of Duty: Black Ops at low settings.
The specs are otherwise sound, especially the 4GB of RAM that helps general system performance. A 320GB hard drive may be a bit small for some, but for the price it’s still a respectable amount of storage. The 15.6in (1,366x768 resolution) screen is easily sufficient for all kinds of productive and not so productive computing. Portability is decent, as the HP 3138tx weighs 2.49kg, and measures 36mm thick, 245mm deep, and 378mm wide.
