The HP Pavilion DV6 3030TX for $1186 may be advertised as an entertainment notebook, but it’s really a very competent all rounder notebook. A Intel Core i5-540M CPU and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics card are both excellent for this price bracket: the i5-540M is the best i5 CPU, and the HD 5650 graphics card is one of the better offerings from ATI. Everything else is pretty decent also; a 15.6in (1366 by 768) screen, 640GB hard drive, and 4GB of RAM. This notebook will have no issues with HD video editing or running modern DirectX 11 games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 or Colin McRae: DiRT 2 at medium to high settings. No Blu-Ray reader is still a gap in the otherwise well rounded specs, but it would likely increase the cost as well. If you want a notebook that does a bit of everything very competently, you’ll get great mileage out of the HP Pavilion DV6 3030TX.
