With a powerful processor and good discrete graphics card, the 15.6in HP Pavilion dv6-4023tx, offers excellent value for money for $776. The 4023tx is now a couple of generations old, since HP pumps out new models regularly, but its 2nd Gen Intel Core i7 and strong mid-range dedicated graphics card still make it competitive next to more recent arrivals. There’s only one real compromise here, and that’s the small 320GB hard disk drive. Given what else you're getting for the price, it's a worthwhile compromise to make, although those with lots of media content may want to consider getting an external hard disk drive.

Processor
The 4023tx features a 2nd Gen Intel Core i7-2630QM (2GHz), a high-end processor that is able to run intensive software and productivity applications without any difficulty. It can burst up to 2.9GHz using Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology if a particularly demanding program is running.

Graphics
It comes with a dedicated graphics card called the AMD Radeon HD 6570M. It’s one of the better mid-range offerings from AMD, and it will be able to handle most modern games at medium to high settings.

RAM
4GB of RAM is enough to run several programs at once smoothly and ensure good overall system performance with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Storage
A 320GB hard disk drive is on the small side, but enough to hold some media content along with your important data.

Screen
The 4023tx sports a 15.6in (1,366x768 resolution) gloss screen. The gloss screen makes movies look better, but does make outdoor usage a bit of a struggle, but stay out of direct sunlight and it’s still fine.

Portability
The 4023tx weighs 2.51kg and is 30.8mm thick, so it's reasonably hefty laptop, but it's still straightforward to carry around.
