HP Pavilion dv7-4010TX

The deal: HP Pavilion dv7-4010TX - $1,728.00

Added 10 July 2010

The HP Pavilion dv7-4010TX is an interesting fusion of gaming power and entertainment functionality for $1728. As a gaming notebook, you have the powerful Intel Core i7-720QM CPU and ATI Radeon HD 5650 graphics card, both some of the best their parent companies have on offer.  Battlefield: Bad Company 2 running smoothly on high settings is an example of what to expect. Consequently, HD video editing and general computing will also prove easy. The TV tuner and 17.3in (1600x900) screen give this notebook believable entertainment credentials. Topping this all off is a massive 8GB of RAM and hefty 640GB hard drive.

This notebook could really use two things; a Blu-Ray reader or even burner, and a Blu-Ray resolution (1920x1024) screen. That way it would be fully functional for entertainment, whereas now it’s just solidly competent. It’s not portable either, weighing 3.627kg and measuring 415.3x274x37 mm. Although an unusual specimen, this is by any measure a great notebook for a reasonable price.
