Although several 14in screen Ultrabooks are in the pipeline from major manufacturers, Australian vendor Leader has just recently released its own and it’s surprisingly well priced.
At $999 it’s one of a tiny handful of Ultrabooks in the Australian market to meet Intel’s goal of sub-$1,000 pricing, and the specs on offer are very compelling. It has a low-voltage 2nd Gen Intel Core i5-2467M (1.6GHz) processor together with 4GB of RAM which puts it on par with more expensive, mid-range Ultrabooks>
The larger 14in (1,366x768 resolution) screen size naturally means it’ll be heavier than 13.3in Ultrabooks, but at 1.72kg and 17mm at the thickest point it’s still incredibly light. As a result of the increased space along the side, it has plenty of connectivity optiosn. There is a full-sized SD card reader, Gigabit Ethernet port, three USB 2.0 ports, a full-sized HDMI port, a VGA port along with an audio jack.
There are also two other versions of this Ultrabook that are worth mentioning, namely the Companion 420 for $1,199 and the Companion 430 for $1,499. The Companion 420 has a 128GB solid state drive rather than a hard disk drive, which still makes it great value for money. Equally impressively priced is the Companion 430, because it has a low-voltage 2nd Gen Intel Core i7-2637M, a 128GB solid state drive and Windows 7 Professional.
