The deal: Medion Akoya P7812 - exceptionally cheap mid-range allrounder with brilliant specs - $899.00
The Medion notebooks available at Aldi tend to be affordably priced given their specs, and the 17.3in Akoya P7812 takes it to a new level. It has a great mid-range dedicated graphics card, a huge amount of HDD storage and plenty of RAM, which for $899 is just about unheard of. This is an excellent desktop replacement, and for the asking price you’d struggle to get anything nearly as good. The Akoya goes on sale in Australian Aldi stores tomorrow.
Processor
The Akoya has a 2nd Gen Intel Core i5-2430M (2.4GHz), a mid-range processor that will have no problems with productivity applications and most intensive software. It can burst up to 3GHz using Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology if a particularly demanding program is running.
Graphics
The graphics card is the NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M. This is one of the fastest mid-range cards available, and most modern games will happily run at high settings.
RAM
The 8GB of RAM is enough to run many programs at once fluidly and very intensive software.
Storage
The 1,000GB hard disk drive, which provides more than enough storage for a decent sized media library.
Screen
The Akoya has a 17.3in (1,600x900 resolution) gloss screen.
Portability
The Akoya is less portable than average, because it weighs 3.5kg and is 38mm thick. Given that this notebook is really a desktop replacement, the portability is not so much an issue here.
