The deal: Motorola Xoom (Wi-Fi) - bargain price for a great Android Honeycomb tablet - $392.00
For only $392 at JB Hi-Fi the Motorola Xoom (Wi-Fi) is as good a bargain as an Acer Iconia special at The Good Guys not long ago. These price drops are expected given that the Xoom 2 with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is on the horizon, but that doesn’t undermine how good a special this is. The Xoom is a well-built tablet that feels really sturdy, and while it doesn’t have the same number of ports as in tablets like the Toshiba AT100 you’re still getting an amazing set of specs for the price.
The Xoom currently runs Android 3.1, with the 10.1in (1,280x800 resolution) screen displaying the OS and Android apps very nicely. It certainly runs smoothly thanks to the NVIDIA Tegra 2 T250 (1GHz) processor and 1GB of RAM, but the real standout for the price is the 32GB flash drive. Tablets with 16GB of storage normally cost about $150 more, making the Xoom a very compelling proposition.
It does weigh about 730 grams, and while that’s heavier than most tablet it’s still easily light enough to carry around. As mentioned, the Xoom is not overendowed with ports, but you do get a headphone jack, a Micro USB 2.0 port and a Micro HDMI port. Beyond that, the Xoom doesn’t skimp on any important hardware, with front and rear cameras, stereo speakers and a microphone.
