The deal: Samsung R530 - respectably priced allrounder notebook - $701.00
For $701 the Samsung R530 is fair value for money. The Intel Pentium T4400 is a reasonable older processor, and while slower than modern Intel Core 2 Duos or Intel Core i3s, it’s still soundly faster than the Intel Atoms found in cheaper netbooks. Onboard graphics rule out serious gaming, but the 4GB of RAM is good. Windows 7 Home Premium and its media features will run smoothly, and you should be able to do things like manage photo archives without difficulty.
A 320GB hard drive is a touch small, but for the price it’s fair enough. The 15.6in (1366x768 resolution) screen is very welcome though. The HDMI port, and CD/DVD burner give you some basic but reasonable media functionality. It’s also average physically, weighing 2.5kg and having 379mm width, 255.5mm depth, and 36.2mm thickness. Dor the asking price this is definitely a worthwhile purchase.
