Samsung RF511 - good looking and powerful Sandy Bridge allrounder

The deal: Samsung RF511 - good looking and powerful Sandy Bridge allrounder - $1,199.00

Added 28 May 2011

For $1,199 at Bing Lee, the Samsung RF511-S04AU has a lot going for it. It has a powerful Sandy Bridge Intel Core i7 with specs equal to any comparably priced allrounder, but its stylish appearance (vaguely reminiscent of a MacBook) is a cut above what you’d normally find at around this price.

The RF511 has a 2nd Generation Intel Core i7-2630QM (2GHz) processor - one of Intel new top-of-the-line notebook CPUs - along with 4GB of RAM, a combination that ensures excellent performance with resource-intensive programs. For gaming there’s an NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics card, a powerful, mid-range component that has the chops needed to run demanding games like Call of Duty: Black Ops at high settings.

A 640GB hard disk drive is plenty of storage. The RF511’s 15.6in (1,366x768 resolution) screen works well for games, productivity applications and videos. But altough good to look at, the RF511 is a bit less portable than many comparably sized allrounders. It weighs 2.6kg and measures 37mm thick, 255.5mm deep and 379.6mm wide.

  • craig_smith (New user): I just bought one of the RF511 from kingwork.com.au. They were selling it for $60 cheaper and with 6GB Memory (rather than 4GB like the above one)...
    Check this out guys :)

  • Mastar C (New user): Reginald can I ask where you got 50% off? I'm weighing up whether to get this or the HP Pavilion DV6-4023TX. Any thoughts folks? Thanks in advance!
