For only $899 the 15.6in Samsung RF511-S04AU is a surprisingly affordable 2nd Gen Intel Core i7 powered allrounder. Normally at this low price there’s a compromise or two, but the specs here are on par with notebooks that exceed the $1,000 barrier. And even better, Samsung is one of the more premium brands in notebook computing.
A 2nd Gen Intel Core i7-2630QM (2GHz) is a high-end processor that will blitz through most modern programs without any trouble, and 4GB of RAM is a good amount of memory that will ensure smooth multi-tasking of those programs as well, even intensive ones. Normally, for this low price the dedicated graphics card would suffer, but the RF511 gives an NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M that’s able to run most modern games at high settings on the 15.6in (1,366x768 resolution) screen.
A 640GB hard disk drive is another surprise given the price, because usually you’d expect to find half as much at this low price. The RF511 weighs 2.6kg, so the overall portability is about typical for an allrounder.
