The deal: Sub $1400 Toshiba Entertainment Notebook - $1,396.00
Entertainment notebooks are generally fairly expensive due to the Blu-Ray readers and TV tuners they include, but at $1396 the Toshiba Satellite A500/031 is decently priced. The Intel Core i5-520M CPU is one of the best Intel Core i5 CPUs available, which guarantees it’s a good one. The NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M is above average, but new games like Mafia 2 will still run on high settings. Other fundamental specs include a 640GB hard drive, 4GB of RAM, and an unfortunately average resolution 16in (1366x768) screen. Blu-Ray HD is 1920x1080, so while 1366x768 is still fine you won’t be watching Blu-Ray movies at the highest resolution.
Naturally this notebook comes with a Blu-Ray reader and a TV tuner, so along with the HDMI ports you’ve got a fully featured entertainment notebook. It’s not very small though, weighing 2.94kg and measuring 384x259x42.9 mm. The main problem here is the screen, but for the price to be this low sacrifices need to be made. If you’re prepared to deal with the decent but not Blu-Ray resolution screen, the Toshiba Satellite A500/031 will happily serve your entertainment needs.
