Entertainment buffs on a budget should take note of the Toshiba Satellite A660/07T, as it’s a feature-complete entertainment notebook for only $979 from PC Wholesale. It may not have a HD screen, but it does have a Blu-ray player and a TV tuner with a hard drive big enough to make full use of it. It’s an excellent bargain however you look at it.

The Blu-ray player obviously plays Blu-ray movies, but the TV tuner does a whole lot more. It lets the A660 function as a TV and it can also record TV onto the respectably large 640GB hard drive. As it is the 16in screen is 1,366x768 pixels resolution, so the viewing quality is still easily good enough to get full use out of all the A660’s features.

An Intel Core i5-450M (2.4GHz) processor can power all the entertainment features cheerfully, and it passes muster for most productivity applications as well. The NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M is a mid-range graphics card, but new games like StarCraft 2 can still run very well at medium settings. As a finishing touch there’s 4GB of RAM to help multi-tasking and running games. The A660 is fairly portable given what’s inside, as it weighs 2.62kg and measures 380.5mm wide, 254mm deep and 35.6mm thick.
