The deal: Toshiba AT100 - super cheap Honeycomb tablet with excellent connectivity - $449.00
The 10.1in Toshiba AT100 is unique among Android Honeycomb tablets largely because of the number and variety of ports and its replaceable battery.
The AT100 was Toshiba's first go at the tablet, and it’s a triumph of function over form, a big thick (15.6mm) device that for $449 is now significantly cheaper than just about any other tablet available. The AT100 pricing might be heading down south because Toshiba will soon release its successor, the AT200, which makes one big change: a dramatic reduction in thickness, to an astonishing 7.7mm, thinner than the iPad 2.
Android Honeycomb 3.1 runs really snappily on the AT100's 10.1in (1,280x800 resolution) screen, and while the textured rubber backing may not be to everyone’s taste it does provide an excellent amount of grip. It can also be removed to access the battery, a feature that no other tablet of this size has.
What else is unique about the AT100 is the variety of ports. While most tablets are lucky to have a single Micro USB 2.0, the AT100 has a full-sized USB 2.0 port, HDMI port and SD card reader. Add in a Mini USB 2.0 port and a headphone jack and it’s clear that this tablet has really excellent connectivity. Otherwise it has all the features you’d expect of in a tablet, including front and rear cameras along with a microphone.
