Notebook Hunter

For $479 the 15.6in Toshiba Satellite C660/00J is a very affordable basic notebook that’s much more capable than most notebooks below $500. This is because of the included Intel Core i3 processor, which has the power needed for productivity applications along with some more demanding programs. The onboard graphics are also enough to play modern games at low settings, so despite being cheap the C660 is genuinely versatile. Keep in mind that this special ends on Sunday though, so move quickly if you're interested!

What it specifically has is an Intel Core i3-2310M (2.1GHz), and while there’s only 2GB of RAM to support it the processor has Hyper-Threading Technology (each of the 2310M’s two cores to handle to tasks at once) which helps out overall performance. The onboard Intel Graphics HD 3000 graphics are enough to run newer games like Call of Duty: Black Ops on low settings on the 15.6in (1,366x768 resolution) screen, so those that want to do a bit of gaming aren’t left in the lurch.

There’s a 500GB hard disk drive for storage, which is great because normally for this low price you’d expect to find a 320GB HDD instead. At 2.54kg it’s about average for portability, but given the screen size we’d be surprised if it was significantly lighter.
