If you need real computing power, you get it for just $1099 with the Toshiba Satellite L650/07C notebook. The main draw here is the Intel Core i5-430M, simple because it’s one of the faster processors available. Also great here is the impressive ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650, as it’s one of ATI’s more heavy hitting graphics processors. The just released Mafia 2 will run on high settings, as will similarly graphics hungry games. This notebook will handle other tasks with aplomb, including HD movies, sorting large photo libraries, or similar processor intensive activities.
The other specs are average, but it’s hard to be overly critical given the good graphics processor and Intel Core i5-430M. A 15.6in (1366x768 resolution) screen, 500GB hard drive, and 4GB of RAM all round out the specs without leaving major gaps. It’s about typical physically, weighing 2.5kg and measuring 380mm wide, 250mm deep, and 37.9mm thick. It’s a ripper of a notebook, and for $1099 it’s great value as well.
