Toshiba Satellite C665 - affordably priced entry-level 2nd Gen Core i3 basic notebook

The deal: Toshiba Satellite C665 - affordably priced entry-level 2nd Gen Core i3 basic notebook - $489.30

Added 17 April 2012

Myer’s current sale has some excellent bargains, and for $489.30 the 15.6in Toshiba Satellite C665/012 is definitely one of them. While basic notebooks with 2nd Gen Intel Core i3s aren’t unheard of for around $500, to get both 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard disk drive is certainly unusual. It does only have Fast Ethernet (as opposed to Gigabit Ethernet) and USB 2.0 ports (as opposed to USB 3.0), but for such a budget notebook these compromises are to be expected. However, having said that it’s definitely good value for money.

See a summary of the specs below.

Processor
The C665 features a 2nd Gen Intel Core i3-2310M (2.1GHz), a fast entry-level processor which can smoothly run productivity applications and some intensive software.

Graphics
It comes with an integrated graphics solution called Intel HD Graphics 3000. It’s on par with a low-end dedicated graphics card, and is sufficient for modern games at the lowest settings.

RAM
4GB of RAM is enough to run several programs at once smoothly. It’s more than enough to ensure fluid overall system performance with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Storage
A 500GB hard disk drive is about average in size. It’s big enough for plenty of documents, but movies and the like will fill it sooner rather than later.

Screen
The C665 sports a 15.6in (1,366 x 768 resolution) gloss screen. This resolution is average for the screen size.

Portability
The C665 has average portability, because it weighs 2.54kg and is 35.6mm thick. It'll be straightforward to carry around.
