The 13.3in Toshiba Satellite Z830 is one of the better ultrabooks because it manages to be powerful enough to do most things a full-sized laptop can, but is extraordinarily light and wafer-thin and has tremendous, ultrabook-standard battery life of at least 4.5-5 hours. Originally sold for around $1,400, it's now $930.40 at JB-Hif. We have no hesitation in recommending this deal. Weighing just 1.12kg, the Z830 has a low-voltage 2nd Gen Intel Core i5, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive: that’s pretty much par for the course for a mid-range ultrabook with the previous gen Sandy Bridge chips, but it’s more than enough for common computing tasks.
There is one other trick up this feather-light ultrabook’s sleeve, and it’s a good one. It has heaps of ports and connectivity which are more like those of a full sized laptop that an ultrabook. These include an SD card reader, two USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port, HDMI port, VGA port and finally a Gigabit Ethernet port. While it generally feels very sturdy, the screen is unusually flexible. However, this is purposeful: it’s still very strong, so you shouldn’t be afraid of it breaking despite its lack of rigidity.
Processor
The Z830 has a 2nd Gen Intel Core i5-2467M (1.6GHz), a mid-range low-voltage processor that can run productivity applications and some intensive software. It can burst up to 2.3GHz using Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology if a particularly demanding program is running. This is a Sandy Bridge processor, Intel's only just superseded chip family, so it's relatively current technology.
Graphics
It has an integrated graphics solution called Intel HD Graphics 3000. It’s on par with a low-end dedicated graphics card, and is sufficient for modern games at the lowest settings.
RAM
4GB of RAM is enough to run several programs at once smoothly. This will be sufficient for moderately intensive image and video editing tasks as well.
Storage
A 128GB solid state drive is small compared to a mechanical hard disk drive, but the payoff is that gives the ultrabook much better overall performance because the boot up and response times are so much faster.
Screen
It has a 13.3in (1,366 x 768 resolution) gloss screen. Although it’s very flexible, this is a conscious design choice in order to make it more resistant to damage.
Portability
The Z830 has exceptional portability, because it weighs 1.12kg and is 15.9mm thick. It’s more than light enough and slim enough to be forgotten in your bag.
