About the [3rd Gen] Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C-A01AU - (Price $1,899.00)
The Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C-A01AU is an outstandingly light ultrabook given its large 15in screen size, with high-end internals too.
While the idea of a 15in ultrabook seems unusual, Samsung’s Series 9 NP900X4C-A01AU is a shining example of how it can be done successfully. Weighing only 1.65kg, this 15in ultrabook packs a 3rd Gen low-voltage Intel Core i7-3517U, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive. It’s not just the insides that are good though. The screen has wide viewing angles, rich colour reproduction and an above average resolution of 1,600 x 900 pixels. It’s also swathed entirely in metal. It’s currently available for only $1,899, which is admittedly fairly pricey despite the quality on offer. Retailers like JB Hi-Fi have sold it in the past for closer to the $1,400 mark, and at that price it's brilliant value for money.
The only real downside is that the number and variety of ports are down a little compared to those on the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3. You get two USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, one Micro-HDMI, an audio jack and a port that allows for connection of a Gigabit Ethernet dongle. Not great but not bad either.
This Series 9 features a 3rd Gen Intel Core i7-3517U (1.9GHz), a high-end low-voltage processor which should have no problems with most software. It can burst up to 3GHz using Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology if a particularly demanding program needs extra power.
It comes with an integrated graphics solution called Intel HD Graphics 4000, which is on par with an entry-level dedicated graphics card. It’ll be enough for modern games at the lowest settings.
8GB of RAM is enough for multi-tasking many programs and is plenty for smooth system performance.
A 128GB solid state drive is small compared to a hard disk drive, but by SSD standards it’s about middle of the road. It give the Samsung excellent performance because of its rapid reading and writing of data.
The Series 9 sports a 15in (1,600 x 900 resolution) matte screen. It has wide viewing angles and rich colour reproduction.
The Series 9 has great portability, because it weighs 1.65kg and is 14.9mm thick. It can be carried around very easily.
This notebook is good in terms of its balance of specifications and price. Keep it in your shortlist, though bear in mind there are probably better buys.
