The first glass capacitive touch screens for netbooks will make PC touchscreens as good as the iPhone.

Ocular has announced that its new gesture support touch screens are being offered in sizes ideal for netbooks. The company is talking up its Crystal Touch large-size capacitive touch screens for use as interfaces on netbooks and MIDs.

The touch screens are capable of responding to gestures like slide, swipe, drag, rotate, zoom-in, zoom-out and more. Basically, the screens will turn a netbook into the iPhone, at least in terms of responsiveness of touchscreen, and this could make tablet-style netbooks with onscreen keyboards much more viable than they are today.

The screens are being offered in sizes up to 10.1-inches, perfectly hitting the netbook sweet spot.

Other Crystal Touch screens will be offers in 3.5-inch, 4.3-inch, 5.7-inch, and 7-inch sizes. Pricing on the screens starts at a mere $US22 ($AU27) and volume OEM pricing is available. This screen tech may make for an excellent convertible netbook.
