OCZ gets its bling on, with the gold-certified Z Series PSU.

Since OCZ released its GameXStream series it’s been heavily active in the PSU market, releasing a plethora of highly efficient and innovative PSUs. The OCZ 1,000W Z Series is no exception, delivering 1,000W of continuous power extremely efficiently.

Rated at 1,000W, with a single rail design capable of delivering 83 amps, this beast can drive a 3-way SLI or CrossFire gaming monster with ease. Awarded the 80 plus gold certification, which guarantees a minimum 87% efficiency at all times, you can expect clean and silent power for the lifetime of the product. We were extremely surprised to find the components were squeezed into an ATX form factor, unlike most 1,000W PSUs on the market, which is a huge positive for those wanting to build in smaller cases.

When we popped the cover off, we found the smaller form factor hasn’t affected the quality of the build. Jam-packed with a mixture of Japanese components, over-the-top heat sinks and good-quality soldering that combine to form a high-quality PSU. The internal 135mm fan really is silent; after installing the Z Series into a case and firing up our rig, we simply couldn’t hear the PSU fan above the noise generated by the CPU and graphics cards. OCZ obviously has enormous confidence in its Z Series PSUs, including an extensive 5-year warranty on the entire range. Modular quick connects have been utilised and include capacity for up to 3-way SLI or CrossFire, 12 SATA drives and 4 additional peripherals.

OCZ aren’t just in the PSU market, they’re one of the leaders, and the Z Series range has certainly cemented that. This PSU is ideal for multiple-card graphics configurations and will maintain a very stable supply of power to your components. The Z series 1,000W PSU is a flawless PSU in design, but may be a touch overpriced for some buyers.

Available from OZC, retailing for $260.
