Performance junkies take heed: OCZ Reaper 2,133MHz RAM review

A stunning performance kit from one of the market leaders, with the potential to deliver some ridiculously good results if you're willing to tune it.
Choosing the right kit of memory to pair with your motherboard is one of the most important decisions a system builder can make. The wrong choice can not only result in lost performance, but it can cause downtime and untold frustration along the way. Enthusiasts have recognised this and started purchasing performance kits from well-known vendors. OCZ has been at the forefront of performance memory and reliability for the last decade and its Reaper HPC series is no exception.
The latest kit in the Reaper series is a triple channel kit rated at 2,133MHz with the timings of 7-10-7-28, it is recommended to be used at 1.65 volts. One of the major attractions of this kit is its low voltage rating, this will significantly reduce power consumption and the result is a lower overall temperature output. This kit features a heat pipe connected to a raised heat spreader that is more than capable of dissipating any heat caused by increased voltage, a technology OCZ called HPE. While HPE is beneficial to the lifespan of the memory, the resultant height increase has the potential to cause problems with aftermarket CPU heat sinks that cannot be rotated.

If you’re a performance junkie, this is the kit for you. When we started pushing the memory frequency to the limit, we achieved an outstanding result of 2,650MHz. This is a ridiculous frequency and shows there is enormous potential head room for enthusiasts to tune this kit to their requirements. Unfortunately the timings of this kit are loose compared to similar kits from other manufactures, which can result in lower performance without some manual BIOS adjustments.
OCZ have proven once again they are leaders in the performance memory market, we just hope the rumours they are leaving the memory market aren’t true.
Available from OCZ, retailing for $199.
