Pirates release Server 2008 and Vista SP1

Arrrrr maties....it be no more than an hour two after ye olde RTM announcement, that Server 2008 hit the scurvy pirate boards, with Vista SP1 not far astern. Avast!

It never takes an especially long time for RTM software to hit the pirate boards from the time it was announced, and the cases of Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 have proven to be no exception.

Within hours of Windows 2008 going RTM, DVD ISO images of both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions were doing the rounds on pirate boards. Vista SP1 took a little longer to start circulating – and currently only the 32-bit version is available – but it’s still there also, as well as the RC2 refresh release of Windows XP SP3.

Interestingly, the groups which tend to be responsible for distributing Microsoft product code ahead of time – WinBeta and BetaInsiders – are actually drawing this code from legitimate Microsoft resources. Although neither Windows Server 2008 nor Vista SP1 are available for general release yet, they are available to TechNet and Microsoft Connect subscribers, and the product code doing the rounds is exactly the same as that available on these sources.

Bear in mind that these releases aren’t true warez as neither group has published product keys or any other sort of activation bypass. However this doesn’t make their release any less piratical, as software available from these sources is explicitly forbidden from being redistributed (so much for that warning).

Fact checking would maybe help?

"Vista SP1 took a little longer to start circulating – and currently only the 32-bit version is available"

All versions of Vista SP1 RTM 32-bit and 64-bit (ISO and EXE) have been out on torrents for over a week and they were posted anonymously.

James Bannan:

An in-depth check refutes your claims, I'm afraid. Various builds of Vista SP1 have certainly been released, but only the 32-bit version of the RTM is available.

Boo:

I'm sorry to say you're wrong again.

Search for:

6001.18000.080118-1840_amd64fre_Client_en-us-FRMCXFRE_EN_DVD.iso
or
6001.18000.080118-1840_x86fre_Client_en-us-FRMCFRE_EN_DVD.iso

if you still can't find them.

As I also said, they have not been released by a group but were posted anonymously on torrents over a week ago.

Wrong again as always. Vista SP1 64 has also leaked on/before RTM announcement including Vista Retail and Enterprise edition (VLK) images with integrated SP1. And Vista SP1 is NOT NOT NOT available to Technet and MSDN subscribers yet. Shitty publishing as always. Just because some people cant find it doesn't mean it isn't there.

Ummm.... Yeah, I think you've supplied your own answer there. Whilst numerous *pre*-RTM versions had, as you say, indeed been released; all the article was saying is that, at the time of writing, the *RTM* version (6001.18000) had not yet. Think before vituperative post next time.

McBanjo:

Well obviously taking M$ property for yourself is the best way to get it. Because M$ doesn't give you any good reason why you should pay for it or wait patiently. It's so much easier to be a pirate than an honest consumer these days.

It has always been easier to me to crack my Windows than to activate it.

I can buy a movie from the store and have to sit through ads and unskippable copyright pirating notices, menu screens and then more warning notices. I pirate, I click movie, I enjoy.

Isn't it ironic how there are no copyright notices on torrented movies?

Sad but true. I find the same, complete with a good reason: I can barely dial a phone number correctly because I mess up the order of the numbers. Imagine how well I go on the phone activation (and with no online OEM activation now, what choice is there?).
Last time I tried to activate an OEM copy I had to pass the phone to someone else to try again for me.

Sam:

LMFAO, good work me 'arties - Vista still sucks though.

If ppl are used to it that' fine by me, but GPL is better 'coz you don't need to enter a crack/serial when installing.
