AMD Thuban CPUs are certainly price to beat Intel's Gulftown parts, but what will the performance gap look like?

When it comes to CPUs, there are really only two names to chose from -- AMD and Intel. Intel typically takes the performance crown and AMD usually leads on the performance for cost front. Last week I mentioned that some details on the new AMD "Thuban" 6-core processors had leaked.

Today we have spied more details on the processors including the price of a couple of them when they hit the streets over in America. The AMD 1090T Phenom II X6 six-core Black Edition CPU will sell for $322 ($US295). The Black Edition will be the multiplier unlocked part aimed at enthusiasts and will run at 3.2GHz.

The only other price offered is for the X6 1055T CPU, which runs at 2.8GHz. The price is said to be $271 ($US199) when the processor hits the street. Both prices come by way of etailer Advanti reports AlienBabelTech. The street price in Australia will be more than the straight conversion prices as usual.

Brown and yellow is not very attractive. They should have picked different colours ;-) The L3 tags are nice. Tags make things easier to find. I think I saw that Hyper Transport thing in Star Wars. 21.4 mm wide is just right. Merit certificate on its way to AMD...
