I have a Navman S50 for 15 months now. Bought it for the wide screen and built in bluetooth hands free.

Works OK as a GPS, but mapping inaccuracies are a problem. (Some streets missing, some don't quite touch in places, sending you on a detour of up to 60km in one case; although arguably that's Sensis' fault. It tells me to turn right onto the railway track at Black Mountain where no right turn exists.)

New maps horrendously expensive at $180, so not buying them. (What a rort. Garmin's maps are only $100 but take 6 weeks to get on a CD, looks like Tomtom is the way to go.)

Bluetooth handsfree completely useless as it's deaf. I had to talk 10cm from the device for people to hear. Tried amplifying it but there doesn't seem to be any echo cancellation so that was a disaster too.

SP2 update from Navman stuffed up the GPS a bit - about 1 min after turning on it will lose itself for about 60 seconds before resuming operations.

About to buy a Tomtom one v3 this week due to apparent ability to report and correct map errors. Will report back once I know how successful this feature is.

Cheers, Mike

DODO Vs OPTUS WIRELESS 3G MOBILE B/BAND

I have SIMs for Virgin, Optus, and Exetel; and have also used the Dodo one at a customer's property. They all use the same modem but Dodo was the slowest. I think the customer was on a a dodo plan that rate limited them.

I can get up to 350k/sec on an Exetel HSPA install not far from a tower. The Virgin and Optus ones can get similar results.

It's probably a bad sign, most DV-6000s had faulty nVidia chips that die prematurely. One of the first signs of death is problems with wireless. See http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us for more info.
